Product Details

Plantain, Plantago major, is a very common weed, and very invasive. It loves to grow on sides of roads and walkways where the soil is very compressed. The nickname for this plant is "White man's footprint", because it grows wherever man goes.

It's young leaves and seeds are edible.

The seeds, when harvested, are known as psyllium. Psyllium is a fiber, which is used in fiber supplements, like Metamucil, but without the additives!

Plantain is great for insect bites, bee stings and other skin irritations. It has a "drawing out" quality, which makes it helpful in getting slivers out.

It is also wonderful for those who suffer from leaky gut.

Other qualities of plantain are:

  • inhibit bacteria growth
  • counteract poisoning
  • relieve pain and inflammation
  • clear obstructions in the gut and airways
  • increase the flow of urine
  • reduce fever
  • stop bleeding
  • improve eye drainage
  • treat or heal wounds; great for healing injured tissue
  • helps with acute or chronic coughing

I forage this plantain locally in central MN.

Comes in a 1 oz amber bottle come with a dropper.

I use the folk method for making all my tinctures, which uses no measurements except sizing things up with your eyes. So I put the plant material in a jar and then fill with alcohol.

Dosages -

Tinctures are meant to be used as medicine in small amounts. Add 10-20 drops to your tea, juice, water or directly into your mouth when needed.

Dosages for children are not provided in most herbals. To determine the correct dose you need to consider the size of the child, the ailment, the power of the herb you intend to use, and the adult dosage.

Young's Rule for determining dosage uses the child's age divided by twelve plus the age. The dosage for a 4 year old: 4/12+4 = 4/16 = 1/4 of the adult dose.
